Did you see smoke in the sky over Lexington County? Here’s the cause

A smoke advisory was issued after a fire started at a landfill in South Carolina Thursday morning, according to Lexington County officials.

At about 9:30 a.m., officials reported a fire at the Edmund Landfill. That’s in a rural part of Lexington between Edmund Highway and Fish Hatchery Road.

Anyone in the area might have noticed smoke in the sky, officials said in a news release.

Officials said the fire was contained at the landfill, adding it was under control and poses no threat to the public.

No injuries were reported.

Information about the cause of the fire, and when it started, was not available.

“This notice is for awareness only,” Lexington County officials said in the release. “There is no cause for alarm, and local emergency services are monitoring the situation closely.”

Despite the fire, operations at the landfill are continuing as normal, according to the release.
