Need some apparel or gear for the outdoors? A new spot to get such things is headed for a popular Columbia mall.

Mountain High Outfitters, which has locations in a number of states across the U.S., is planning its first South Carolina location at the Columbiana Centre mall just off busy Harbison Boulevard. There are large banners hanging in the windows of one of the storefronts at the mall announcing Mountain High is “coming soon.” There also is a sign in the window at the space announcing that Mountain High is hiring for its Columbia team.

The Columbiana Centre Mountain High location also is listed as “coming soon” on a store locator tool on the company’s website. An opening date has not been publicly announced.

The outdoor outfitter is coming to a space in the central portion of Columbiana Centre, not far from the mall’s food court. It will be a couple doors down from the Barnes & Noble bookstore that opened in the mall last year. Prep work was being done in the would-be Mountain High space when a reporter peeked in the window Monday afternoon.

Mountain High Outfitters carries a number of well-known outdoor clothing brands, including The North Face, Patagonia, Hoka, Birkenstock and others. The company has stores in a number of states, according to its website, including Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama and Utah.

The Columbiana Centre mall has remained a popular retail hub, and features a host of national department stores, restaurants, shops and other retailers. It is located on Columbiana Circle, just off bustling Harbison Boulevard near Interstate 26. State Department of Transportation data shows more than 28,000 car per day travel down Harbison, one of the key retail corridors in the Midlands.
