A portion of Harden Street in Columbia’s Five Points neighborhood will be closed and detoured for nighttime road work starting Tuesday, part of continuing construction in the area.

The closure will be on the block between Blossom Street and Devine Street at the heart of the popular dining and nightlife district to place pavement markings, the state Department of Transportation announced. That’s the section of Five Points that’s home to businesses including New Brookland Tavern, Bar None, and Groucho’s Deli.

Drivers will be detoured away from the section starting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 1, with the closure set to continue until Wednesday, July 2 at 4 a.m. The closure will resume, pending weather delays, Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. and end Thursday, July 3 at 4 a.m.

The detour route will be posted with signage near the area.

SCDOT advises drivers to slow down and pay attention near the work zone.
