The first couple of eateries have been announced for a new food hall that is coming to a growing Columbia district.

Gather COLA, an open-air food hall and community hub that is set to be the first of its type in Columbia, is under construction in the BullStreet District. The project — a joint effort from Cason Development, Greenville’s Four Oaks Property Group and BullStreet master developer Hughes Development — is slated to open later this year.

Bull and Bread sandwich shop was the first vendor announced for Gather COLA, with the food hall trumpeting it in a June 20 Instagram post. Bull and Bread is an effort from the owners of The Half, a popular sandwich shop in Wilmington, NC.

“We chose Gather because the vision is special,” Bull and Bread co-owner Carl Cross said in a June 21 Instagram post from Gather Cola. “A place that caters to everyone young and old and everybody who is anybody can show up and have a great experience.”

Meanwhile, on June 29, Gather Cola announced on social media that Cocobowlz, which is known for its acai bowls, smoothies and more, would also be a part of the food hall. Cocobowlz has a number of locations across South Carolina, including spots in Columbia’s Five Points and in Irmo.

“At Cocobowlz we bring a fresh, feel-good energy with our handcrafted acai made with the highest quality ingredients,” Cocobowlz CEO Daniel Morales said in an Instagram post from Gather Cola. “We believe in creating moments of joy through healthy, delicious food — Gather is the perfect place to do that.”

The Gather COLA food hall will span 32,000 square feet across multiple levels. It will be located at the corner of Sabal and Freed streets within the BullStreet District, not far from the REI outdoors store and co-op.

Four Oaks Property Group developed the Gather GVL food hall located on Augusta Street in downtown Greenville. The Greenville food hall, located a short distance from Fluor Field baseball stadium, is home to a host of food vendors, including Cocobowlz, Greenville Beer Exchange, HenDough fried chicken and doughnuts, Mercado Cantina and others.

In 2023, USA Today named Gather GVL as one of the 10 best food halls in the U.S

According to a February release, Gather COLA will have nine restaurant and food vendor spaces “showcasing local and international flavors.” It is also set to feature two bar areas, pop-up areas for micro-retailers, 8,500 square feet of office space across multiple floors and an outdoor gathering area with seating and space for live entertainment.
