There’s a new spot for authentic Mexican fare in Lower Richland.

Mr. Flaco’s Tacos Mexican restaurant recently opened its doors at 10115-A Garners Ferry Road in the Eastover area near Columbia. The restaurant is about three miles east of Lower Richland High School, and about a mile and a half east of Horrel Hill Elementary School.

“It’s with great excitement and happiness that we’re letting you know that Mr. Flaco’s Tacos is now open, offering authentic Mexican Street food,” the restaurant recently posted on Facebook.

The new restaurant offers a host of Mexican culinary favorites, including tacos, gorditas, quesadillas, tostadas, sopes, tortas (aka Mexican sandwiches), burritos, huaraches, empanadas, and flautas. Mr Flaco’s has a number of meats available for their dishes, including steak, marinated pork, chicken, chorizo sausage, barbacoa (shredded beef) and more.

Mr. Flaco’s Tacos was crowded during lunchtime on Tuesday, with construction workers, uniformed military personnel and local residents lining up for a meal. This reporter ordered a burrito that came stuffed with carne asada, rice, beans and pico de gallo, and added a prodigious amount of hot sauce and fresh squeezed lime juice.

While located in a generally rural area in Lower Richland, Mr. Flaco’s Tacos is nonetheless along a busy Midlands highway. About 21,000 cars per day travel down that section of Garners Ferry Road, per state Department of Transportation statistics.
