One person dead after fatal crash in Kershaw County

One person is dead after a single vehicle crash Saturday in Kershaw County, the South Carolina Highway Patrol said.

About 3:45 p.m. Saturday, two people were driving in a Nissan Altima north on S.C. Route 97 when they went off the left side of the road, struck a tree and went down an embankment.

The crash took place near Richards Lane.

Both people were taken to a hospital where the passenger later died.

The name of the person who died from the crash was not immediately released.
