A medical office that had been in the middle of downtown Columbia for a decade has shuttered.

The Novant Health Urgent Care office, formerly long known as Doctors Care, at 1538 Main St. has closed its doors. The facility was located next door to Drake’s Duck-In restaurant, and across the street from the Columbia Museum of Art.

The signage for the doctor’s office has been removed from the front of the building at 1538 Main, and a note on the door directed customers to visit one of the other Novant Health Urgent Care offices in Columbia, including the Shandon office on Rosewood Drive or the location on Forest Drive in Forest Acres.

July 25 was the last day for the medical facility on Main Street, according to the Novant Health Urgent Care website.

The urgent care office at 1538 Main initially opened in 2015 as Doctors Care. In 2024, Novant Health purchased UCI Medical Affiliates, a deal which included 52 Doctors Care facilities. Those Doctors Care offices have now been rebranded to Novant Health Urgent Care.

The Main Street District in Columbia remains an active thoroughfare and one of the capital city’s key districts. It has been revitalized during the last decade with new restaurants, bars, hotels, apartments, shops and more.
