A portion of Calks Ferry Road will be closed for a month while the state’s transportation department makes repairs to the road.

The bridge over Interstate 20 in Lexington is set to be closed beginning Sept. 8, the S.C. Department of Transportation announced in a release Monday. The closure is expected to last until October, DOT said.

A detour route will be set up along Sherwood, Longs Pond and Two Notch roads, DOT said in the release.

Calks Ferry Road saw around 3,900 cars each day last year, according to state traffic counts. The month-long closure comes after the bridge was temporarily shut down overnight in May, following a detailed inspection in which the transportation department found structural issues with a portion of the bridge.
