Lexington County shooting leaves man dead outside residence. What we know

A man was killed in a shooting in Batesburg-Leesville early Thursday morning, the town’s police department reports.

According to a release, Batesburg-Leesville officers were dispatched at 12:30 a.m. to the 500 block of Ash Street in the town that sits along the border between Lexington and Saluda counties after a call about gunfire heard in the area. Upon arrival, officers found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds lying near the roadway outside of a residence.

The victim, identified as 37-year-old Monetta resident Scottrell Juarez West, by the Lexington County Coroner’s Office, succumbed to his injuries despite public safety personnel administering medical aid, according to press releases from the police department and coroner’s office.

The incident is under investigation by the Batesburg-Leesville Police Department, the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department and the Lexington County Coroner’s Office.
