A new coffee shop is debuting in a popular neighborhood in downtown Columbia.

Vibez Coffee has opened at 622 Canalside St. in the Sola Station complex in the Canalside development near the Congaree River. The shop recently announced on Instagram it was in a soft opening phase. There will be an official grand opening at noon Friday, Aug. 29 with Columbia City Councilman Ed McDowell and other local officials slated to be on-hand, per a city release.

Vibez is a “a Black-owned, veteran-operated, Christian-based” coffee shop, according to the city’s release.

“Dedicated to fostering fellowship and building community, Vibez Coffee plans to host social events and gatherings designed to bring people together both within Sola Station and throughout the Columbia area,” the release said.

According to its website, Vibez offers specialty coffees and teas, as well as baked goods. The venue is designed for customers to gather and socialize, the site notes.

“Vibez is more than a coffee shop: it’s a modern-day watering hole where people from all walks of life can gather, feel seen, and belong,” the shop said in a social media post earlier this summer. “We’re here to fuel productivity, spark creativity, and cultivate meaningful community, all while serving high-quality coffee and offering a space that reflects the excellence of the all mighty God we serve.”
