Many South Carolina elementary school students met or exceeded expectations in English, but struggled more in math, new state test results show.
The results come by way of SC READY, a statewide testing method that annually measures how students are performing in English language arts and math. SC READY analyzed test scores for 3rd through 8th grades.
In math, only third and fourth graders met or exceeded expectations by 50% or higher in the previous school year — with third graders doing the best at 56.3%.
The eighth graders performed the worst, with only 32.4% meeting or exceeding expectations.
English performance was considerably better, with more than 50% of students in each grade meeting or exceeding expectations. Fourth graders did the best, with 63.5% meeting or exceeding expectations.
