Students in Greenville County Schools outperformed others across the state on a standarized test to measure whether they are ready for work or college.

Known as the South Carolina Career Ready or SC READY, the test provided by Worldwide Interactive Network assesses students in math, data, reading and soft skills, which involves communication, organization, empathy and problem solving.

Elementary and middle school students in grades 3-8 outperformed the state in English language arts, math and science and middle and high school students outperformed the state in all subject areas.

Three quarters of Greenville County students who took South Carolina’s Career Ready Assessment in spring 2025 earned a credential, outperforming the state rate of 69%.

In addition, every one of Greenville County’s 52 elementary schools maintained or increased English Language Arts and/or math scores from 2023-24 to 2024-25 school year, the district said in a news release.

The test showed 95% of middle schools maintained or increased ELA and/or math scores from 2023-24 to 2024-25 school year.

The school district described the assessments as steady growth in all subject areas across all levels over a three-year period.

“This year’s achievements underscore the unwavering dedication of our students, faculty and school and district leadership,” said Superintendent Burke Royster.

The South Carolina Department of Education goal is to have at least 75% of students performing at or above grade level by 2030. The test was first administered in 2015-2016 school year.

Statewide, this year’s test results show just under 60% of students are at or above grade level in ELA and just under 44% in math, the SC Department of Education said.
