Authorities responded to a northeast Columbia car dealership Friday after a person was shot.

The Richland County Sheriff’s Department said deputies went to the Volkswagen dealership at 440 Killian Road at about 11 a.m. Friday in reference to a person being shot. When they got there, deputies located a male with gunshot wounds.

The victim was taken by EMS to a local hospital for treatment.

“The patient was alive at the time he was being transported,” the sheriff’s department said in a release.

The suspect or suspects fled the scene before deputies arrived, the sheriff’s department said. Authorites added that they believed it was an isolated incident. The sheriff’s department asked the public to avoid the Killian Road dealership as of midday Friday in order to give investigators space to work.

This is a breaking story.
