A well-known Midlands automotive company has purchased land to bring a new dealership to the Chapin area.

Jim Hudson Automotive Group recently purchased 15 acres — spread over two parcels — in the 700 block of Columbia Avenue in Chapin, according to a release from commercial real estate firm Colliers South Carolina. Hudson plans to put a Ford dealership on the property which will employ nearly 80 people.

The Chapin site is located off Interstate 26’s exit 91. The state Department of transportation currently is finalizing upgrades to that interchange, a release noted. The property is on the other side of the interstate from the bulk of Chapin. The town has not previously annexed land on that side of the interstate, but the parcel was marked for possible “interstate commercial” use in Chapin’s 2022 future land use map.

The purchase price on the deal was about $4.5 million. Colliers’ Grayson Greiner represented Hudson Automotive.

“This transaction presented unique challenges in acquiring two adjacent parcels with separate ownerships,” Greiner said in a statement. “I am pleased that Jim Hudson trusted Colliers to work through the Town of Chapin annexation process on its behalf.”

The Jim Hudson Automotive Group currently has a total of 10 car dealerships — representing a variety of brands including Ford, Audi, Toyota, Buick and others — across the Midlands and in the Augusta area. The Chapin project will be the company’s second Ford dealership, following the one at 1201 W. Main St. in Lexington

The Chapin Ford dealership is slated to open in the summer of 2027, Hudson Automotive president Keith Hudson said in a statement.
