Columbia’s Harbison area is getting a new major national store. Here’s when
A national chain that specializes in outdoor gear with discount prices has set an opening date for a Columbia store.
Sierra, which has locations across the U.S., will open a new store at 136 Harbison Blvd. on Oct. 18, according to a post on the company’s website. The store will be in the Columbiana Station shopping center, in the section that also includes a Target, a Publix, a Rack Room Shoes and other national brands.
The Columbia Sierra location is going into the space that formerly was home to Bed Bath and Beyond, which closed in 2023. Sierra is known for offering outdoor apparel, footwear and other gear at lower prices. It is part of the company that also owns T.J. Maxx, Marshalls and HomeGoods.
There are nearly 140 Sierra stores across the U.S., according to data site ScrapeHero. In South Carolina there are currently Sierra locations in Anderson and Greenville, per a store locator page on the company’s website.
The Harbison area, located just off Interstate 26 northwest of downtown Columbia, has continued to be perhaps the Midlands’ busiest shopping district, lined with big box stores, shops, restaurants, bars, movie theaters, hotels, the Columbiana Centre mall and more. About 28,100 cars per day travel down Harbison, per state Department of Transportation statistics.
