A new Chick-fil-A restaurant that will replace an older facility is under construction in Columbia.

The famed chicken sandwich chain is building a new restaurant at 425 Bush River Road, in the southwest corner of the parking lot of Dutch Square Center mall. Once completed, it will take the place of the Chick-fil-A operating about a quarter-mile away at 229 Bush River Road.

The opening date for the new restaurant hasn’t been publicly announced, but construction was well underway when a reporter went by on Thursday morning. A sign is posted along Bush River Road letting customers know the site is the future home of a new Chick-fil-A.

The Bush River Road Chick-fil-A has been sharing construction updates on Facebook, and it recently had a hiring event in preparation for the move to the new store.

The city of Columbia’s zoning board approved a measure back in December 2023 making way for Chick-fil-A’s eventual move from 229 Bush River Road to the new site up the street. The new property will have more parking and increased drive-thru-capacity, city paperwork indicated.

Lexington County Chick-fil-A closed for upgrade

Meanwhile, a different Midlands Chick-fil-A is temporarily closed as it upgrades its drive-thru.

The Chick-fil-A Saluda Pointe location at 4295 Sunset Blvd. in Lexington closed on Sept. 29 to begin its renovation. The Saluda Pointe location directed customers to its sister store at 2299 Augusta Road in West Columbia until the upgrades are complete.

“We can’t wait to welcome you back - bigger, better, and faster than ever!,” the Saluda Pointe Chick-fil-A said on Instagram. “Make sure to keep following along for behind-the-scenes & updates.”

A reopening date for the Saluda Pointe location has not been announced.
