Pedestrian killed overnight on busy Columbia-area highway

Just before 1 a.m. Friday, a pedestrian walking on Two Notch Road was hit by a car and killed.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol reports that the driver of a Kia sedan travelling toward Columbia hit and killed an unnamed pedestrian who was “in the roadway” on Two Notch Road, near the I-77 interchange north of Columbia.

The person hit by the car died at the scene, according to the highway patrol. The driver of the car was not injured. The area where the crash took place is a busy traffic corridor, with drive-thru restaurants on either side of the road, gas stations and a hotel nearby.

The Highway Patrol did not identify the person who was killed, but stated that the crash is under investigation.
