A housing developer is planning to build 243 new homes in a currently undeveloped area off Garners Ferry Road.

Great Southern Homes will build the new subdivision behind the Garners Ferry Road Walmart, along Patterson Road, pending approval from the Columbia Planning Commission.

The roughly 60-acre plot to be developed would border the Annie Burnside Elementary School to the west and an existing subdivision to the east.

The proposed subdivision, named Casetta Pines, would include a pool and community center, as well as just over 20 acres of greenspace to accommodate area wetlands.

The planning commission will consider Great Southern Homes’ application at a meeting Thursday.
