Columbia police investigating body found on banks of Congaree River

A dead man was found by kayakers on the banks of the Congaree River, according to a social media post from the Columbia Police Department.

The kayakers found the body and called 9-1-1 at about 6 p.m. Tuesday evening, according to the X post. Columbia Police Department is investigating the body found near the 400 block of Wheat Street.

The body was identified as “male,” in the social media post, but no other details were provided. The Columbia Police Department wrote it was investigating to determine if there was foul play Tuesday evening.

No foul play is suspected as of Wednesday, a spokesperson for the Columbia Police Department wrote in an email.
