There’s a new spot for Mexican cuisine near one of Columbia’s key music and entertainment venues.

San Jose Jr., which is a smaller version of the many San Jose Mexican restaurants across the Midlands, opened its doors Monday, Oct. 13 at 1616 Taylor St., according to the restaurant’s social media. The building at 1616 Taylor St. was formerly home to Deli Say No More.

The new Mexican restaurant is less than a block down the street from the Township Auditorium, which remains a popular venue for concerts, stage plays, stand-up comedy and more.

“Come enjoy fresh tacos, margaritas, and all your favorite Mexican dishes,” the Taylor Street San Jose said on Facebook. “It’s the perfect spot to relax, eat, and catch up!”

San Jose is an instantly recognizable name on the Midlands Mexican restaurant scene. The company has nearly 20 restaurants across the region. Many of them are classic, table service casual dining restaurants, though it also has some express locations, such as the one at the Hendrix Crossing shopping center in Lexington. San Jose also has a waterfront location on Lake Murray that opened in late 2023.
