This downtown Columbia area is getting a new Cuban restaurant. Here’s where
A new Cuban restaurant is being prepped in the heart of downtown Columbia.
Cuban Corner, which has been a popular vendor at the weekly Soda City Market, is bringing a brick-and-mortar restaurant to 1212 Hampton St. That’s next door to the Hampton Place Cafe, near the intersection of Hampton and Sumter streets.
An opening date for the Cuban eatery hasn’t yet been announced, but there were “coming soon” signs on the windows when a reporter went by on Thursday morning. Cuban Corner has touted the coming restaurant on its social media channels.
“We can’t wait to share our flavors, our story, and our heart with this community,” Cuban Corner said on Facebook. “Thank you for walking this journey with us — the best is yet to come.”
The restaurant is touting a host of Cuban and Latin delicacies on its windows, including Cuban sandwiches, sweet fried plantains, Cuban coffee, ropa vieja, pastelitos, empanadas, croquettes and more.
The new Cuban spot will be in the midst of the Main Street District in Columbia’s downtown core, just steps from the Marriott hotel. The Main Street District has continued to be a popular downtown hub, with restaurants, bars, hotels, apartments, shops, the Columbia Museum of Art, the Nickelodeon Theater and more.
