One person is dead following a wreck in Lexington County.

South Carolina Highway Patrol Trooper Brittany Glover said the wreck happened at about 9:15 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23 on Calks Ferry Road at Old Charleston Road in Lexington County. That’s about five miles north of the town of Pelion.

There was only one vehicle involved in the crash, the Highway Patrol said, and the driver was the only person in that vehicle, which was a 1997 Ford F-150 truck.

According to Glover, the truck was traveling east on Calks Ferry when it went off the road to the right and hit a tree. The driver died at the scene.

Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher identified the deceased as Byron Paul Gunter, 37, of Lexington.

The coroner’s office and the Highway Patrol continue to investigate the wreck.
