The husband and wife musical duo Shovels & Rope will headline a second day of free music at downtown Columbia’s Finlay Park, which is celebrating its grand re-opening Nov. 15 and 16.

The city is hosting the free annual Jam Room Music Festival on Saturday, Nov. 15 at Finlay Park as part of the park’s grand re-opening after a more than $24 million renovation.

This week, the city also announced a lineup for a second day of free music at the park on Sunday, Nov. 16, headlined by the Americana duo based in Charleston.

Married couple Cary Ann Hearst and Michael Trent have been playing together as Shovels & Rope since 2008 and have created a name for themselves on the national folk music scene. The duo have opened for Jack White of the White Stripes, and have appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman.

In 2017, the pair founded the High Water music festival, which brings nationally recognized acts to Charleston each year. For years they were featured as one of the festival’s prominent performers before they parted ways with the event in 2024.

Shovels & Rope will play at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 16 to round out the two-day Finlay Park reopening celebration.

Also playing Sunday are;

  • DJ Prince Ice – 12:00 p.m.
  • Welcoming – 1:00 p.m. (Event emcee, MASTER SPLNTA)
  • The C.B. Jackson Singers – 2:00 p.m.
  • The Mickens – 3:15 p.m.
  • Soda City Brass Band – 4:45 p.m.
  • Donovan Twins – 5:45 p.m.

On Saturday Nov. 15, Jam Room, moving off Columbia’s Main Street for the first time since its inception in 2012, will bring musical acts DIIV, White Denim, Steve Ray Ladson, Sunny War and others to the fresh-faced Finlay Park.
