A bustling shopping area near Columbia is getting a new restaurant. What we know
Folks in Forest Acres didn’t have to wonder for very long what might go in the former TakoSushi spot on Forest Drive.
Jimador Real Mexican Cuisine is planning a new restaurant at 4711 Forest Drive, in a shopping center that’s anchored by a Lowes Foods grocery store. There are banners hanging outside the space announcing that the Mexican restaurant is “coming soon” and the city of Forest Acres announced the plans in a Tuesday morning Facebook post.
Jimador Real Mexican Cuisine is part of the El Jimador chain that has been popular in the Midlands, with locations in Cayce, Columbia, Lexington, Irmo and elsewhere. An opening date in Forest Acres hasn’t been publicly announced.
The coming Mexican restaurant will go into the space that formerly was home to a TakoSushi restaurant. The Forest Acres TakoSushi closed earlier this month, but that company still has Midlands spaces in Lexington and on Main Street in Columbia.
“The swift arrival of @eljimadormexicanrestaurantes is good news for tacos and queso lovers,” the city of Forest Acres said on social media.
The shopping center where the Mexican eatery is going is home to a number of businesses, including the aforementioned Lowes Foods, an Eggs Up Grill restaurant, a CVS pharmacy and a host of others. It is along the busy Forest Drive stretch that includes scores of restaurants, stores, apartments, offices and more. About 27,000 cars per day travel down that section of Forest Drive, per SC Department of Transportation data.
