- Wijo Pouches plans $13.5M investment and 170 jobs pending final council vote
- County approved multiple incentives; four manufacturers announced investments in 2025
A Swedish company that creates oral nicotine pouches is one of the latest companies to announce plans to invest millions and create jobs in Lexington County.
Wijo Pouches would become the fifth manufacturing company this year to announce plans to invest money or bring jobs to a county that heavily leans on manufacturing jobs. It’d also be the fifth company this year to be approved for tax incentives from Lexington.
If approved, it’d be set to bring the highest number of jobs from a single manufacturing company that’s been announced since January.
The company, which plans to invest $13.5 million and create 170 new jobs, would receive both tax credits and a decades-long cap on the property taxes it owes to the county. The county council unanimously approved the incentives package on second reading at its Tuesday meeting and will have to take one final vote before the package is finalized. One of the county’s largest employers, Michelin, was approved for tax incentives in June to invest $159 million, but no new jobs were linked to the project.
At least two other companies, Cardiff Products and AllTape Adhesive Manufacturing, announced plans this year to open plants in the Saxe Gotha Industrial Park – the county’s largest manufacturing hub wedged along Interstates 26 and 77 in the county. The park holds some of the county’s largest employers such as Amazon, Dominion and Nephron Pharmaceuticals.
But while the county has nearly filled its premiere industrial park, another county park has yet to attract any tenants. Chapin Business and Technology Park, the 220-acre spot, sits empty more than seven years after being completed. The county has poured more than $16 million into the park as of 2020 and continues to pay to maintain and light the space.
The companies that’ve already announced plans this year to come to Lexington will bring 270 new manufacturing jobs. The industry is the county’s third largest, according to its website. Here are the three companies that’ve announced plans this year to bring new manufacturing plants to Lexington:
Cardiff Products
Announced in January 2025, the Canadian beverage producer will get tax incentives from the county to add 94 new jobs and invest $99.6 million. The family-owned company, started in 2019, will bring its first South Carolina operation to 4810 12th St. Ext. in West Columbia. The company produces plant-based drinks.
AllTape Adhesive Manufacturing
With a plan to begin operations in July 2026, AllTape Adhesive Manufacturing will invest $70 million and create 130 new jobs when it opens its first South Carolina location in the county’s Saxe Gotha Industrial Plant. In its 125,000-square foot space the company is set to produce water-based adhesives for use in different industries like automotives and plastics.
On top of receiving a tax incentives package from the county, AllTape will also receive a tax credit from the state.
Techo-Bloc
In April, Techo-Bloc, a manufacturer that produces landscaping materials, announced it would invest $45 million and add 46 new jobs in Lexington. The company is set to construct a new facility in Cayce, off Dixiana Road, and begin operations in the fall of 2026.
