A West Columbia spot known for ice cream, tacos is set to close. What we know
A Midlands restaurant that has been known for ice cream treats, tacos and more is planning to close its doors.
IceCream Taco, which is located at 2708 Emanuel Church Road in the Three Fountains area of West Columbia, announced on Facebook early Tuesday morning that it will be closing. Ice Cream Taco originally opened on Sunset Boulevard in Lexington in 2022, and moved to Emanuel Church Road in late 2023.
Shop owner Sonia Norman discussed the closure in the heartfelt Tuesday Facebook post, saying that she plans to travel and see foreign lands following the shop’s closure.
“Thank you for every smile, every laugh, every child’s happiness, every late-night conversation, and every moment you allowed me to be a small part of your lives,” Norman wrote. “IceCream Taco was never just a shop — it was a community we built together.”
Tuesday’s post didn’t list a closing date for IceCream Taco. The Facebook message drew an immediate, big response, with more than 440 reactions and nearly 100 comments as of 10 a.m.
As the shop’s name suggests, it has offered ice cream and tacos, as well as milkshakes, chili dogs and more. In the summer of 2022 the shop won a poll of The State’s readers as their favorite ice cream shop in the area.
Norman, who has a background in law enforcement and in the fire service, wrote in Tuesday’s Facebook post that the shop felt like a related mission.
“IceCream Taco was another extension of that service — a place filled with love, color, laughter, and community,” Tuesday’s post said.
