South Carolina health inspectors found multiple violations at restaurants in the Midlands in November, from rodent droppings in a sink, to black, microbial gunk on dishes and moldy food. The state each month releases grades and inspection reports for food establishments across Midlands counties.
Here are the restaurants that received some of the lowest ratings in November.
Lin Panda Garden at 2465 F Main St. in Kershaw
Lin Panda Garden had an inspection on Nov. 12 and got a C grade.
An inspector observed food stored on the floor.
Employees were seen changing tasks without washing their hands. Shelled raw eggs were seen stored over cooked chicken. Certain foods were seen not kept at proper holding temperatures.
Beef was seen thawing on a counter not under approved thawing methods. Food and grease buildup was seen in the microwave. Tiles were seen missing from the ceiling.
The restaurant had a required followup inspection on Nov. 19 and got an A grade.
D&D Restaurant at 1824 Platt Springs Rd. in Lexington
D&D Restaurant had an inspection on Nov. 17 and got a C grade.
An inspector observed an employee handle toast with bare hands.
Repackaged raw chicken was seen stored over ready to eat products in the freezer. Raw beef products were seen stored with and over ready to eat products. Also observed open raw products stored with and over ready to eat products.
Heavily stained containers were seen stored as clean. Utensils with food matter were seen stored as clean. Cutting boards were found with deep grooves and black buildup. Meaty residue was seen on a slicer stored since Saturday.
Open deli meats and prepared foods were seen without dates for when they were opened or prepared. Knives were seen wedged between equipment. Heavy grease and food accumulation were seen on equipment.
The restaurant had a required followup inspection on Nov. 25 and got an A grade.
Tsunami at 1290 Bower Pkwy in Lexington
Tsunami had an inspection on Nov. 4 and got a C grade.
An inspector observed fly rods and traps full of dead pests.
Raw chicken fluid was seen on the floor of the walk-in cooler and tracked into the kitchen. Raw chicken fluid was seen dripping and splashing from the prep table to the adjacent prep cooler housing ready to eat foods.
Black microbial growth was seen on dishes, containers and bus tubs stored as clean. Sushi fish was seen on the counter thawing and not properly submerged under running water.
Cutting surfaces were seen soiled, stained and gouged with dark microbial growth. Dirt and food matter were seen on equipment and shelving.
The restaurant had a required followup inspection on Nov. 13 and got an A grade.
Blue Fin at 461-4 Town Center Place in Richland
Blue Fin had an inspection on Nov. 6 and got a C grade.
An inspector observed a server with long polished nails working with exposed food without gloves.
Employees were seen eating where food was being prepared. Employees were seen changing tasks without washing their hands. Dishes with food and label residue were seen stacked as clean.
Rice and pasta not cooked to proper temperature. Fish was seen not thawing under proper instructions. Grease and food buildup were seen on kitchen equipment.
The restaurant had a required followup inspection on Nov. 19 and got an A grade.
Boeshreen at 2630 Decker Blvd. in Richland
Boeshreen had an inspection on Nov. 6 and got a C grade.
An inspector observed fly tape installed about single-service items and equipment. Also observed small flies in dish storage cabinets.
No hand washing cleanser was available at hand sink in men’s restroom. Uncovered containers of food were seen in coolers and freezers. Dishes and equipment with food debris buildup were seen stored as clean.
An aerosol bottle of glass cleaner was seen stored above an uncovered tub of breaded mix. Food debris and grease were seen on the floor beneath the cook line.
The restaurant had a required followup inspection on Nov. 13 and got an A grade.
Bojangles at 2800 Clemson Rd. in Richland
Bojangles had an inspection on Nov. 19 and got a C grade.
An inspector observed flies in the kitchen area.
An employee with ungloved polished nails was seen working with food. Employees were seen working without effective hairnet restraint.
Grease and food debris buildup was seen on kitchen equipment. Grease, trash and food debris was seen on the floor and walls.
The restaurant had a required followup inspection on Nov. 25 and got an A grade.
Family WU LLC at 7311 Parklane Rd. in Richland
Family WU LLC had an inspection on Nov. 25 and got a C grade.
An inspector observed multiple flies throughout the facility. Also observed dead bugs in light fixtures.
Multiple open boxes of food were seen stored on the floor in the walk-in cooler. Single service items were seen stored on the floor in the storage room.
Raw meat was seen stored in grocery bags in freezers. Heavy grease and food debris was seen on various surfaces. The same tongs were seen used for different types of raw meat and vegetables.
The restaurant had a required followup inspection on Nov. 26 and got another C grade. A second inspection has not yet been held.
JJ Tea House at 601 Main St. in Richland
JJ Tea House had an inspection on Nov. 3 and got a C grade.
An inspector observed an employee handle ready to eat pork cutlet sandwich with bare hands.
Multiple containers of open food product were seen throughout the facility. Certain foods were seen not kept at proper holding temperatures. Refuse and trash was in the facility and not disposed of properly.
Food splash was seen on walls in the facility.
The restaurant had a required followup inspection on Nov. 13 and got an A grade.
The Joint @ 1710 Main in Richland
The Joint @ 1710 Main had an inspection on Nov. 8 and got a C grade.
An inspector observed rodent droppings in a hand sink, underneath equipment and in closets and areas throughout the facility.
An employee was seen handling raw beef for burgers and don new gloves to handle ready to eat product without handwashing. The lone handwashing sink was seen blocked with bus tubs and papers.
White fuzzy growth was seen growing in crab sauce stored in the walk-in cooler. Certain foods were seen not kept at proper holding temperatures.
Buildup of debris was seen on outside of equipment and underneath shelving. Grease, grime, food debris was seen on walls and floors.
The restaurant had a required followup inspection on Nov. 20 and got an A grade.
