The SC Department of Transportation said work to demolish the old Highway 6 bridge over Interstate 26 in Calhoun County will happen Dec. 9 and 10, with traffic routed around the work.

Traffic will shift for a couple of days along a section of a major Midlands interstate.

The SC Department of Transportation said in a release that workers will begin demolishing the old Highway 6 bridge over Interstate 26 at exit 136 in Calhoun County on Dec. 9 and 10, with work going on from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. each of those days.

Traffic will be routed around the demolition site via the exit 136 ramps, the department said in a release.

Transportation officials said signs will be placed along the route to alert drivers of the temporary traffic change, and law enforcement will be present to direct traffic at key intersections. Motorists are urged to slow down and use caution near the work site.
