A new coffee shop is planned for downtown Columbia.

Amiriya Coffee House is coming to 1001 Washington St., according to banners in the windows of the space and the shop’s social media accounts.

An opening date for the coffee house has not been publicly announced, though banners at the space say the shop will be “Brewing soon!” The description of Amiriya on its Instagram page says it will serve “premium Yemeni coffee” and that the shop will be “Columbia’s next signature spot.”

According to an extensive article about the style in Food & Wine, Yemeni coffee is typically “grown at high altitudes, then milled, dried, and roasted in the sun.”

Amiriya will be coming to a space that formerly was home to The Aristocrat, a cocktail bar and jazz club. The Aristocrat initially opened in 2017. The space at 1001 Washington St. is a block west of Assembly Street and a few blocks northwest of the South Carolina State House.
