Federal agents arrested one person in Cayce in the early morning hours Thursday, the Federal Bureau of Investigation confirmed.

The FBI arrested Kerry Charlotin in the 2000 block of Lorick Street, a spokesperson for the agency’s Columbia-area office, Kevin Wheeler, said. Charlotin and one other man, Shaquylle Burden, are charged with possession of and conspiracy to distribute fentanyl, a potent synthetic opioid drug, according to warrants. It wasn’t clear Thursday if Burden is also in custody.

Charlotin pleaded guilty in 2020 to being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition and was sentenced to five years in prison, according to a press release from the attorney general of Massachusetts’s office.

The two men have been selling drugs, including fentanyl, in the Boston area, since at least June 2025, according to an arrest warrant issued by the agency Dec. 10. The FBI used an undercover agent to purchase drugs from the two men on both Oct. 16 and Dec. 3, the warrant said.

The agency claimed, in its warrant, that the men were a part of a larger drug trafficking organization based in the Boston, Massachusetts, area. Last year, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control estimated that more than 80,000 drug overdose deaths occurred in the United States. That number represented a decrease of more than 25% from 2023.

The city of Cayce’s spokesperson Ashley Hunter said the case was not under Cayce police department’s jurisdiction, but that the department helped the federal agency secure the area’s perimeter and assisted in the arrest.

The arrest drew attention from neighbors on social media, asking questions on Facebook and the Next Door app about a loud noise and police lights.
