Passenger killed in car crash on Christmas Eve identified by SC coroner
One person died in a Christmas Eve crash in Fairfield County, authorities said.
Armanti Rice-Richmond, a 21-year-old Winnsboro resident, was the passenger who died in what Fairfield County Coroner Chris Hill called an accident, Monday in a news release.
The single-car collision happened at about 4:20 p.m. Dec. 24, on S.C. 213 near Anderson Quarry Road, South Carolina Highway Patrol Master Trooper Hannah Davidson said in a news release. That’s about 7 miles east of Jenkinsville.
The Highway Patrol said a 2006 Honda Accord was driving south on S.C. 213 when the driver crossed the center line, then overcorrected and went off the right side of the road and hit a tree. Rice-Richmond, who was the front seat passenger, died from injuries sustained in the wreck, the Highway Patrol said.
Rice-Richmond was wearing a seatbelt, according to the coroner’s office.
Both the Highway Patrol and coroner’s office are continuing to investigate the crash.
Through Sunday, 879 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2025, according to the state Department of Public Safety. Last year, 1,032 people died in crashes in South Carolina, DPS reported.
At least seven people have died in Fairfield County crashes in 2025, according to DPS data. There were 10 deaths in the county in 2024, DPS reported.
