Two people dead following multi-car crash in Lexington County
An infant and an adult died and others were injured following a Christmas Eve car crash in Lexington County.
The wreck happened at about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday on SC 602 near Dari June Road, according to South Carolina Highway Patrol Master Trooper Hannah Davidson. That’s in the Red Bank area, east of the Platt Springs Crossing shopping development.
Gloria Martinez Alonso, 24, and Elisa Martinez, 1, both of West Columbia, died at the scene, according to a news release from the Lexington County Coroner’s Office.
According to the Highway Patrol, a 2016 Cadillac SUV was traveling west in the eastbound lane on SC 602, while a 2010 Ford Focus was traveling east on the same road. The cars “made contact,” authorities said.
A front seat passenger of the Ford and the driver of the Cadillac were taken to an area hospital for their injuries.
The Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
