Heading out for Columbia’s New Year’s fireworks? How to navigate, where to park.

A “Capital City Fireworks” display will go off behind the South Carolina Statehouse just after midnight Dec. 31 to help ring in the new year.

The fireworks show, hosted by the City of Columbia, is just one of a list of events being held around the city to send off 2025 and welcome in 2026.

Some downtown streets will be closed for the festivities. Here’s what to know before heading out in downtown Columbia on New Year’s Eve.

Fireworks

The city is hosting a fireworks show on New Year’s Eve that will begin shortly after midnight.

  • The show will be most visible from the north end of the South Carolina Statehouse, at the corner of Gervais and Main streets.
  • The event is free to the public
  • Traffic will be shut down at the intersection beginning 11 p.m. Dec. 31.

Road closures

  • South Main Street between Pendleton and College streets will close from 6 p.m. Dec. 31 to 1:30 a.m. Jan. 1.
  • Pendleton and College streets between Assembly and Sumter streets will close from 11 p.m. Dec. 31 to 1:30 a.m. Jan. 1.
  • Gervais Street between Assembly and Sumter streets will close at 11 p.m. and re-open after the midnight fireworks display.

Columbia has several city-owned parking garages downtown with a mix of reserved and visitor parking spaces.

  • Lady Street

  • Lincoln Street
    • 820 Washington St.
  • Park Street
    • 1007 Park St.
  • Sumter Street
    • 1400 Sumter St.

There are plenty of events being held in or around downtown on New Year’s Eve before the city’s fireworks display goes off after midnight, from a free downtown block party, to all-night parties at nearby bars.
