New Year’s Eve fire damages several homes in northeast Columbia
A two-alarm fire in northeast Columbia on Wednesday night damaged several homes and left seven residents without a place to ring in the new year, the Columbia Fire Department said.
Firefighters responded to the 300 block of Glen Knoll Drive in The Summit subdivision about 9:30 p.m. to find a raging fire that had engulfed one home and was rapidly spreading to another next door, the department posted on X.
Crews entered the second home and extinguished the fire , but could not salvage the first house, which the department said was “completely destroyed.”
A third residence adjacent to the home where the fire originated also suffered heat damage, the department said.
No one was injured in the blaze, and it wasn’t immediately clear how many of the seven residents displaced by the fire were home when it started.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
