A family of three was displaced Wednesday afternoon when a fire ripped through their Lower Richland home, the Columbia Fire Department said.

Firefighters responded to the home on Knight Valley Circle, located off of Caughman Road, to find smoke pushing from all sides of the property and heavy flames shooting through the roof, the department posted on X.

The home’s occupants, two adults and a child, evacuated safely and were not injured.

Columbia firefighters extinguished the blaze with the assistance of the Fort Jackson Fire Department, but not before much of the home’s roof was burned away, the department said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
