A funeral service for the University of South Carolina’s longest-serving board member will be held next week, affording community members and friends a chance to say their last goodbyes.

The life of Eddie Floyd will be remembered beginning at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, at the Francis Marion University Performing Arts Center, located at 201 South Dargan Street, according to Floyd’s obituary. The Floyd family will greet friends immediately following the service, and a private burial will follow, the obituary said.

Floyd, who served on the university’s board of trustees for 40 years, died Thursday morning at the age of 91. A 1956 USC graduate, Floyd was a retired physician and tobacco farmer from Florence. He became a member of the board in 1982 and retired in 2024, while serving as chair from 1992 until 1996.
