A new store is on the way at a busy Lexington intersection near a major interstate and industrial businesses.

An Exxon Energy Express convenience store and gas station is coming to the northwest corner of Barr Road and Pisgah Church Road. Construction work is well underway on the large, brick building at the roughly three-acre site, and the framework for the gas pumps is rising parallel to Pisgah Church Road.

A sign at the property notes that the Energy Express is “coming soon.” An opening date has not been publicly announced. State Department of Revenue records show the business has applied for its permits to sell alcohol for off-premises consumption.

The store is coming to an interesting convergence in Lexington. The Country Club of Lexington, with its golf course, tennis courts, pool and more, is located across the street to the east. Meanwhile, a host of industrial plants and businesses are just to the south of the intersection, including Michelin, US Foods, and Do It Best Corp.

The Energy Express site is about a mile north of Interstate 20. Nearly 51,000 cars per day travel down that section of the interstate, according to SC Department of Transportation records.
