A downtown Columbia bookstore will move to a new location, but it’s not going far.

Queer Haven Books, which offers books and gatherings that are welcoming to the LGBTQ community, will move from its current space in the Arcade Mall at 1332 Main St. to a storefront at 1219 Taylor St. about two blocks away, according to posts on the shop’s social media and info on the business’ website.

The bookstore plans to move to its new Taylor Street location in early March.

“The new store will be half a block off Main Street, [near] the Columbia Museum of Art and The Nick,” Queer Haven noted on Facebook. “Not only will we be almost tripling our square footage, the public parking garage next door and a storefront window will increase our visibility and accessibility.

“We are excited to have more space to host larger events and create a cozier communal space for everyone to hang out and feel safe.”

Queer Haven Books has been located in a roughly 600-square-foot space in the Arcade Mall since early 2024. The shop sells books, hosts author events, and often has a presence at Main Street’s Saturday morning Soda City Market.

“We can’t wait to have you in our new space and have more room to hang out,” the bookstore said on social media.
