Lexington spot named SC’s top ‘hole in the wall’ sandwich shop by national site
A longtime, well-known sandwich shop in Lexington recently caught the attention of a national food website.
Cribb’s Sandwich & Sweet Shop, located at 108 S. Church St. in downtown Lexington, was named on a recent list from food-centric website Chowhound. The website on Feb. 2 published a piece naming the best “hole in the wall” sandwich shops in each state in the U.S., and Cribb’s was the place that was chosen for South Carolina.
“Cribb’s Sandwich & Sweet Shop is a cute, country-style spot tucked in the heart of Lexington — look for the big chicken out front,” Chowhound noted in its entry about the Lexington shop. “Cribb’s offers homestyle sandwiches, cakes, and more, all freshly baked and made.”
Known, indeed, for the large rooster statue that is posted just outside its front door, Cribb’s is located just a block off Lexington’s Main Street thoroughfare, across the street from the popular Ice House Amphitheater. The sandwich shop has been open since 1997.
The menu at Cribb’s includes a host of sandwiches, including pimento cheese, chicken salad, tuna salad, ham, turkey, roast beef and more. The shop serves salads and soups — chicken bog was recently featured as a soup of the day — and is known for cakes and other sweet treats.
Cribb’s Sandwich & Sweet Shop is open from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. They are closed Sundays and Mondays.
