A person died days after a vehicle crash on a Midlands roadway.

South Carolina Highway Patrol Master Trooper William Bennett said in a Friday release that the wreck happened at 6 p.m. on Feb. 2 on Cane Savannah Road, near the intersection of Highway 261, in Sumter County.

The trooper said a 2004 Chevy Trailblazer was traveling south on Cane Savannah Road when it went off the right side of the road and hit a sign. The vehicle then went back across the left side of the road and hit a tree. The driver, who was the Chevy’s only occupant, was taken by emergency services to an area hospital.

The driver died from their injuries two days later, on Feb. 4, the Highway Patrol said. The deceased had not been publicly identified as of Friday afternoon.

The crash remains under investigation, Bennett said.
