A new pizza restaurant has opened in the heart of Columbia. Check out where
If you are craving pizza, there’s a new spot to check out in the middle of downtown Columbia.
Black Dog Pizza, located at 1649 Main St. in the space beneath Hendrix restaurant, officially opened its doors on Feb. 6, as noted on social media. The restaurant is open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m and 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.
The new pizzeria comes from Columbia restaurateurs Jon Sears and Chris Davis, who own a number of establishments in the area including Hendrix, Jake’s, and No Name Deli, among others.
Black Dog noted in a recent news release that its pizza features the “signature elements of classic Neapolitan pies: leopard-spotted char, airy dough, and high-quality ingredients like house-made dough, fresh mozzarella, and Bianco DiNapoli Tomatoes — but with a key upgrade: a crispier, more structured crust that’s made to be eaten by the slice.”
The menu at the new Main Street spot features pizzas by the whole pie or by the slice. Among the specialty pies is the Philly cheesesteak pizza, which comes with a garlic cream base, shaved ribeye, mushrooms, grilled onions, roasted hot peppers and aged provolone.
The eatery also has a selection of salads and sandwiches, including a meatball sandwich on focaccia. It has a full bar with wine, negronis and more. And there’s a tiramisu on the dessert menu.
Main Street north of the State House continues to be a hot spot in Columbia. It’s lined with bars, restaurants, shops, apartments, hotels, the Columbia Museum of Art, the Nickelodeon Theater and more. Black Dog and Hendrix are just south of the main Richland County Courthouse.
