National store to close in Columbiana mall as company shuttering all locations
A national clothing store has filed for bankruptcy and plans to close all of its locations, including one in a popular Columbia mall.
Francesca’s, a Texas-based clothing retailer that has locations in more than 40 states, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and plans to cease operations after 25 years, as noted in a news release. The coming closures also have been reported by national outlets such as USA Today and others.
Among the hundreds of Francesca’s stores planned to shutter is a location in the Columbiana Centre mall in Columbia’s Harbison shopping district. It’s located on the southern end of the mall, near Auntie Anne’s and Build-A-Bear.
Sales have already begun at the Columbiana Centre Francesca’s store, with signs posted announcing storewide discounts and exclaiming “Everything must go!”
Francesca’s has long been known for its women’s clothing offerings, including skirts, blouses, cardigans, jewelry, dresses, rompers and more. A final closing date for the stores hasn’t been publicly announced.
The Columbiana Centre mall remains a popular shopping hub, with a number of department stores, smaller shops, restaurants and other amenities. It is part of the larger Harbison commercial area northwest of downtown Columbia that is lined with big box stores, bars, eateries, hotels, movie theaters and more.
