Growing area near Columbia to get new location of famed convenience store chain
Get ready, Elgin. You’ll soon have a new spot to get a Slurpee.
7-Eleven, which has stores across the U.S. and globally, is prepping a new location at 829 White Pond Road in Elgin, near northeast Columbia. That’s just north of exit 87 off Interstate 20.
An opening date for the new convenience store and gas station has not been publicly announced, but there are signs on the front door and at the roadside in front of the business announcing that it is “coming soon.” The store will have traditional unleaded pumps across the front of the property, and a diesel fueling area in the back.
7-Eleven is the nation’s largest convenience store chain, with more than 12,000 locations across the U.S., per data website ScrapeHero. Their locations typically have all the convenience store staples such as snacks, candy, bottled drinks, beer, etc., plus hot food such as pizza and wings. Perhaps the chain’s most famous food or beverage item is the Slurpee, the ubiquitous frozen drink that typically comes in a host of fruity flavors.
The Elgin convenience store will be in what is an increasingly busy area. About 55,000 cars per day travel down Interstate 20 nearby, according to SC Department of Transportation data, while about 10,000 cars per day travel down White Pond Road itself.
