Free family zoo admission? Borrow a Riverbanks Zoo pass from the library.
Want a free day at Riverbanks Zoo and Garden? All you’ll need is a library card.
fRichland Library is now letting cardholders check out guest passes to the zoo, (yes, just like a book) through its Library of Things.
The Library of Things is Richland Library’s collection of nontraditional items that patrons can borrow, from power tools to microscopes to podcasting equipment and more, designed to help residents learn and try new things without an expensive barrier to entry.
The zoo passes can be checked out online up to 90 days in advance, and they cover daytime admission for two adults and up to four children. Patrons can borrow the passes for two weeks at a time, and they are good for unlimited general admission during zoo hours.
The community pass also comes with free COMET bus rides to and from the zoo on Route 84, which runs between downtown Columbia and the St. Andrews area. The library passes cover general admission, but special attractions and experiences, like feeding the animals, require separate tickets.
Richland County residents can register for a free library card online or in person at any Richland Library branch. Non-residents can also get a library card for $65 per year.
