They did it again. Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport was listed as the best small airport in North America.

But that’s not all.

It was also named the airport with the most dedicated staff, easiest journey, most enjoyable and cleanest. And that for all of North America.

The annual survey conducted was part of the Airports Council International - North America Airport Service Quality program, which surveys passengers about their experience.

“At GSP, we are honored to receive all five of the awards offered through the ASQ program for the fourth consecutive year,” GSP President and CEO Kevin Howell said. “These recognitions reflect our continued focus on the passenger experience.”

Seven airlines fly from GSP with more than 100 daily flights. They are Allegiant, United, Delta, Breeze, American, Avelo and Southwest.

An estimated 3 million passengers used GSP in 2025, making it the third-busiest airport in South Carolina.

The 10-county regional airport opened in 1962 due to the efforts of two Upstate industry leaders — Roger MIlliken of Milliken & Company textile firm in Spartanburg and Charles Daniel of Daniel Construction in Greenville.

Milliken headed the airport commission until he died in 2010 at 95. He is considered responsible for the early growth and success of the airport and the landscaping that many people remark about.

He ensured the landscaping with various conifers and other trees hid the industrial needs of the airport such as air conditioning systems.

In recent years, the airport has become a hub for air cargo, including flights to Europe, Mexico, Asia, and the United States.
