A suspect has been arrested in connection with a shooting in north Columbia that left one person dead and another injured this week.

The suspect, a 20-year-old man, was taken into custody Thursday night by the Richland County Sheriff’s Department. Anthony Boyd is charged with murder, attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, according to a department news release.

Deputies responded to reports of a shooting about 12:15 p.m. Thursday in the 7300 block of Monticello Road. One shooting victim died at the scene, while another was transported to the hospital for treatment, the department said in a news release. Deputies tracked down and arrested Boyd without incident about 7 p.m.

“Investigators were able to determine that the victims and suspect were known to each other, and that they agreed to meet at the location’’ of the incident, the news release said. “When the parties arrived at the location, the suspect began firing at the victims. The suspect was identified as Boyd.’’

Killed in Thursday’s shooting was 18-year-old Columbia resident Jordan T. Miller, the Richland County Coroner’s Office reported Friday.

We will continue working with the Richland County Sheriff’s Department to fully investigate this shooting, Coroner Naida Rutherford said in a news release. Boyd was taken to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center where he was awaiting a bond hearing, the sheriff’s department said. Boyd was at the detention center Friday. It was not immediately known if Boyd has retained a lawyer .
