A popular park near the Congaree River is currently unaccessible while the City of West Columbia adds new features.

Carraway Park at the Riverwalk, located at 212 Hudson Street near the West Columbia Riverwalk, is temporarily closed as the city makes improvements to the area.

The park, an all-inclusive playground is already equipped with a jungle gym and other play facilties, as well as a picnic shelter and bathrooms.

It may be another two weeks until the park opens, the city has said, as shade sails are installed.

“These improvements are part of the City of West Columbia’s ongoing efforts to enhance amenities and comfort for visitors at one of the community’s most popular riverfront destinations,” a news release read.

The park itself is closed, but the adjacent parking lot remains available to patrons.

Updates regarding the project’s progress, as well as the park’s reopening, will be shared on the City of West Columbia’s website at www.westcolumbia.gov and social media pages.
