Whether you plan to boat, beach or simply leisure at Lake Murray this spring and summer, here’s what you should know before you go to the “Jewel of South Carolina.”

Visitors are invited back to the lake’s public parks for the 2026 recreational season starting next month, officials announced.

“Lake Murray is a favorite summer destination for many visitors across the Midlands and beyond,” Billy Chastain, manager of Lake Management for Dominion Energy South Carolina, said in a news release. “We’re excited to welcome guests back and encourage everyone to follow boating and swimming safety guidelines while enjoying the parks.”

The beach and recreation area on the Lexington side of Lake Murray will be open April 1 through Sept. 7 in 2026. On weekdays, hours are from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. It is open on weekends and holidays from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m.

Day passes are $5 and must be reserved up to three weeks in advance through Dominion Energy’s online reservation system. Passes are valid for an entire day, but cannot be reused once visitors leave.

Parking is $5 per vehicle per day. This offsets the cost of maintenance, security and improvements at the parks.

Officials noted that no lifeguards are on duty at the beach. Pets and alcohol are prohibited.

The Irmo boat launch area, though accessible year round, will see some changes this spring. Cash will no longer be accepted — visitors need to pay online once they arrive. Boat trailers will need a $5 parking pass between April 1 and Sept. 7.

At this park, swimming is not allowed, nor is alcohol. Pets are permitted, but must be leashed.

For more information about Lake Murray, visitors can call the Lake Management Office at 803-217-9221 or visit DominionEnergy.com/LakeMurray.
