National competition series is coming to Irmo this weekend. Here’s the schedule.

A national skateboarding contest is headed to Irmo for the second year in a row.

The Boardr Series, a national contest series for skaters for all ages and skill levels and hosted alongside Palmetto Citizens, will be held at the Friarsgate Skate Park within Rawls Creek Park this weekend, which is located 1113 Friarsgate Boulevard.

The series is designed to provide a “fun and fulfilling” skateboarding experience for all participants, according to a news release from the Town of Irmo.

On Friday, guests are welcome to skate with “The Boardr Boys” and special guests at 5 p.m.

Registration and practice will open at 8 a.m. on Saturday. The street skating contest is at 10 a.m. for the following categories:

  • Women’s Street 12 and Under
  • Women’s Street 13 and Up
  • Men’s Street 8 and Under
  • Men’s Street 9 to 12
  • Men’s Street 13 to 16
  • Men’s Street 17 and Up

Awards for street skating will be given out at 1 p.m. For street skating, three skaters will be allowed to jam for three minutes at a time, and will be judged by “overall impression.”

The bowl skating contest follows at 1:30 p.m. for the following categories:

  • Women’s Bowl 12 and Under
  • Women’s Bowl 13 and Up
  • Men’s Bowl 12 and Under
  • Men’s Bowl 13 and Up

Awards for bowl skating will be given out at 3 p.m. The bowl skating event will allow eight skaters at one time, with three runs at 30 seconds each. You skate until you fall. This will also be judged by “overall impression.”

Parking will be directly at the parking, and overflow is available nearby at Universal Outreach. Visitors are encouraged to bring chairs. Local food vendors will be also be at the event, including Kona Ice, Filipina Kusina and Cox Family BBQ.
