They aren’t a pop-up any longer.

Godspeed Coffee, the buzzy coffee company that has made a name at pop-up locations in Columbia in the last couple of years, has officially opened a permanent location at 747 Saluda Ave. in Columbia’s popular Five Points hospitality district.

Godspeed opened its doors Wednesday morning at the Saluda Avenue address, announcing the debut in a post on Instagram. That post drew a big reaction, with more than 1,100 likes and more than 100 comments as of Wednesday afternoon.

The coffee shop was stuffed with customers when a reporter briefly went by at lunchtime Wednesday, with coffee drinkers filling the tables inside the cafe and spilling out into the space outside the building.

It’s not unusual to see coffee being poured at 747 Saluda Ave. After all, that address was home to a Starbucks for 20 years before it closed in 2023.

Godspeed, which is owned by Roger Caughman and Kailey Cunningham, has earned a reputation for offering creative, artisan coffee options and other drinks. It has operated in pop-up locations the last couple of years, including at the Boyd Innovation Center in Five Points, in advance of moving into the permanent digs at 747 Saluda.

The shop’s menu features a selection of coffee, teas, lattes, sodas and more. It has a number of creative offerings among its signature drinks, including the Neapolitan. That one comes with espresso, chocolate, strawberry milk, a vanilla bean cream top and a waffle cone piece.

Godspeed is open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
